Her Answer
When they got home, there was an uneasy gnawing in Paige's stomach.
She glanced to the man in the seat beside her for a couple seconds, before looking away and opening the passenger door to step out. The day they had shared together was⦠Actually really great. She wasn't sure when the last time she let herself relax and have fun like that was, but she didn't stop to think about it.
She had made her decision.
She carefully smoothed her clothing down, and made sure she looked somewhat presentable before she began to walk up the stairs of the porch and to the front door. She turned to wait for Saythe, however, looking to him with an amiable smile that hid the way her stomach was twisting itself in knots on the inside.
Step. Step. Step. Step.
Saythe had decided that no matter her decision, he would have to deny everything. Because he was scared, terrified, that if he began to love her, she would simply tear his heart from his chest and dash it into pieces on the floor.
And so he walked, slowly, with a fake smile upon his face, toward the girl he wanted to fall for, but wouldn't let himself love.
"Today was wonderful. I hope the next two months are like this."
In truth, he wanted to go back to the military. Back to the sameness that would allow him to lose his sorrow in routine.
"Yeah, me too." She smiled somewhat, and carefully opened the door and stepped inside. It was quiet in the house, but that was to be expected. Willow was probably off building stuff, and there was no doubt that Aisling and Shaun were being sappy fucks somewhere in the house. And Bain and Nych were probably just⦠Around.
"Um." She cleared her throat awkwardly. "I should probably change the bandages on my eye again." She rubbed the back of her neck. "Could you maybe give me a hand? I can't really see the exit wound that well and I'm not sure if I'll properly wrap it up." It was an excuse to be alone with him, but it was the truth. Her vision on that side wasn't all that great anyways, considering she had none. So it made it a little more difficult.
"I can probably manage on my own but-" She shuffled a little bit nervously. "If you're not busy.."
Saythe nodded rapidly, as he truly did want her to get better. "Of course I'll help you. Come on." He said, taking her lightly by the arm and tugging her toward the bathroom they had occupied before. There were bandages and cleaning supplies there, so he sat her down on the side of the tub and pulled the mirror to where it was before.
He then slowly, carefully, began to take the bandages off from around her face.
His breathing hitched as he did so, taking in all of the girl he found to be beautiful, but couldn't see it herself. He wanted to be with her, but knew she would break him.
